SHIH TZUS
These popular toy dogs can weigh between 9 to 16 pounds, and stand between 8 and 11 inches at the shoulder. Shih Tzus are surprisingly sturdy and solid for a small dog. The coat is worth the time you’ll put into it—few dogs are as beautiful as a well-groomed Shih Tzu. And that face! Those big dark eyes, that sweet expression! It’s no surprise that Shih Tzu fans have been so devoted to their little “Lion Dogs” for a thousand years. SHIH TZU are Outgoing, affectionate, playful and charming the sole purpose of the Shih Tzu is companion and house pet, he should be lively, alert, friendly and trusting. These little dogs are good with children and other pets, with Supervision. This is also a non-shedding breed and good for folks with allergies. They generally bark very little.

THE SHIH TZU IS OFTEN CALLED "THE CHRYSANTHEMUM-FACED DOG" BECAUSE OF THE HAPHAZARD, ROUND-FACE WAY THEIR HAIR GROWS IN THE FRONT.

SHIH TZU MEANS LION, AND IN BUDDHIST BELIEF, THERE IS AN ASSOCIATION BETWEEN THE LION AND THEIR DEITY; THUS, THE DOGS WERE BRED IN COURT.


Beyond regular weekly grooming, the occasional bath will keep them clean and looking their best. Grooming can be a wonderful bonding experience for you and your pet. Their strong fast-growing nails should be trimmed regularly with a nail clipper or grinder to avoid overgrowth, splitting and cracking. Their ears should be checked regularly to avoid a buildup of wax and debris which can result in an infection. Teeth should be brushed regularly.
